Drama ini bermula ketika The Weeknd merilis single Some Way tanggal 15 Februari 2017. Ketika dibaca liriknya, banyak fans yang beranggapan kalau lagu ini merupakan sindiran dari The Weeknd buat Justin. Terutama lirik bagian ini, “I think your girl, think your girl fell in love with me/She say my f--- and my tongue gave a remedy,” and then later, “I just took that chick, and I know you feeling some way/She just want a n---a like me, you feeling some way.”
Lirik yang dinyanyikan oleh NAV juga dicurigai sebagai sindiran buat Justin, nih. "The brown boy and the Starboy on a track/Haters gonna say this s--t is wack."
